Your go-to destination for quality custom firearm engravings.

Illumined Arms stands as your premier destination for custom firearm engraving services. Our expertise covers engraving for a wide range of firearms, including AR-15, M16, M4 Carbine, MPX, SBR (Short Barrel Rifles), SBS (Short Barrel Shotguns), Machine Pistols, Suppressors, Silencers, Pistols, Revolvers, Semi-Automatic Pistols, NFA, and Class III firearms. As an ATF-licensed FFL Type 7 and SOT entity, we possess the authority to take possession and laser engrave fully assembled guns, firearms, suppressors, rails & accessories, stocks, lowers, uppers, or barrels.
Utilizing laser engraving is the optimal approach for incorporating serial numbers, NFA Trust & owner information, logos, custom graphics, and features onto firearms, suppressors, rails, stocks, and various accessories. Certain firearm engravings, like serial numbers and class 3/type 2 markings, necessitate specific depths. Illumined Arms is equipped with advanced laser technology to achieve and verify compliance with all depth requirements mandated by the ATF.

FAQ

Before initiating the production of a firearm or suppressor, the individual or entity responsible for its construction must submit an application to the ATF, obtaining approval before proceeding. The approved application is identified by the NFA stamp, containing crucial details such as the make, model, serial number, barrel length, total length, and caliber/gauge of the firearm.

Following approval, the maker must engrave (or permanently mark) this information on the relevant parts, such as the frame, receiver, or barrel, depending on the specifics. If an individual is the firearm maker, the finished product must also bear the individual’s name and the city and state of production.

In the case of an NFA gun trust as the firearm maker, the finished firearm should feature the name of the trust instead of an individual’s name.

The stipulations for engraving are outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations § 479.102, emphasizing:

  1. Markings must be prominently placed on the firearm.
  2. Markings must be created to resist easy removal or alteration.
  3. Markings should have a minimum depth of 0.003 inches and a print size of ≥0.0625 inches.

These requirements apply to all firearm manufacturers, makers, and importers. However, individuals or entities purchasing pre-manufactured firearms are exempt from engraving obligations, as these firearms should already be appropriately marked.

The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) oversees firearm regulations, providing extensive information on its website. Terms like Class 3, Title II, or NFA guns are often used interchangeably, alluding to the National Firearms Act (NFA), administered, and enforced by the ATF.

Title II encompasses guns requiring special handling, regulation, and taxation. This includes Short Barrel Shotguns (SBS), machine guns, destructive devices, and certain specialty guns and antiques.

Class 3 refers to the dealer license needed for the transfer and trade of these items. When acquiring a Title II gun, consulting a Class 3 Dealer is essential. It is recommended to explore the ATF website and consult with Class 3 dealers to understand the legal logistics of owning such firearms.

Many Class 3 Firearms owners are opting to establish trusts for compliance with NFA regulations. For proper adherence, trust information should be engraved on the firearm visibly. Illumined Arms, known for its quality service, has been providing this engraving service for responsible gun owners for years.

Custom Stippling and Grip Texturing

If your frame is made of polymer, we can apply stippling. We offer a variety of textures tailored to suit each shooter’s preferences. Our stippling service includes the following modifications:
  • Full 360-degree hand-texturing for enhanced grip, featuring a slight grip reduction for added comfort.
  • Choose between a Medium (EDC/Range) or Aggressive (Duty/Competition) finish.
  • Option to retain or remove finger grooves; if retained, we’ll subtly re-contour them to improve ergonomics.
  • Single or double undercut for a higher grip on the frame. The double undercut ensures consistent support hand placement.
  • Choose between standard stippled index points or a Gas Pedal (“Accelerator Cut”) index point. The Gas Pedal index point allows for increased downward pressure with the support hand thumb, aiding in recoil control and resulting in a more stable shooting experience. Note: Gas Pedal not available on single-stack Glock frames.
